The Trinidad Scorpion Butch T chilli belongs to the genus Capsicum chinense. Although it is descended from the Trinidad Scorpion Moruga red from the Caribbean, it is an Australian variety. It owes its name to Butch Taylor, the owner of the Zydeco Farm in Crosby Missisippi, who sent seeds from a cross of the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion with one of his hottest chillies to Australia. The variety was grown there to make an extremely hot chilli sauce.

Description

Trinidad Scorpion Butch Yellow is extremely hot, and has a fresh taste with mild citrus notes. The fruits of the Butch T yellow are wrinkled and irregularly shaped and ripen from green to light yellow. There is also a variety with red fruits. The taste is fruity-sweet, which can be deduced from their extreme pungency. They are mainly used in hot sauces.

The plant grows bushy and reaches a height of 80-120 cm. It is strongly recommended to wear gloves when harvesting and processing the fruit. This spicy fruit needs a lot of warmth during cultivation. The seeds should be soaked in camomile tea for disinfection. The substrate must always be kept moist and during the germination period the seeds need a minimum temperature of 24 °C. Temperatures between 24 and 28 °C are ideal.
